The KS3 & 4 Health and Wellbeing curriculum at Ty Dysgu is a purposeful, transformative space designed to breathe life into our school vision. We believe that education should extend far beyond academic achievement; it should provide a sense of hope, pride, and empowerment for every young person. Through consistent nurturing guidance, our curriculum fosters an inclusive environment where pupils develop the resilience and aspirations needed for lifelong learning.
By centring our lessons around the Curriculum for Wales H&WB (AoLE), we ensure that our pupils are not just preparing for outcomes and exams but are actively preparing for life.
Health & Wellbeing schemes of work and daily activities are deliberately built around the core pillars of holistic development. We guide pupils to understand the interconnection of a healthy body and mind, recognising that physical vitality and mental resilience go hand in hand.
Through engaging, real-world scenarios, pupils explore healthy behaviours, safety and risk awareness, self-regulation, empathy for others and navigating complex decisions and choices. Through developing an understanding of their own personal values and attitudes, pupils build a sense of belonging through upholding rights and respect, managing friendship and conflict and understanding social interactions and expectations.
In Key Stage 3, the journey begins working collectively on whole-group topics, creating a shared sense of belonging and mutual support. However, inclusion at Ty Dysgu means recognising that every path is unique. Within these group topics, pupils are guided to identify personalised topics tailored to their individual needs.
This dual approach ensures a balance between academic growth in literacy, numeracy and relationships and sexuality education (RSE) and social growth to build confidence, communication skills, and collaborative strength.
As pupils transition into Key Stage 4, the curriculum adapts to mirror their growing independence and diverse future aspirations. The learning structure shifts to a dynamic "Topic of the Term." Around this central theme, we construct entirely bespoke packages tailored to each pupil’s specific individual needs.
These customised pathways target four essential dimensions: physical, social and emotional health and skills development.
At Ty Dysgu, the Health and Wellbeing curriculum is more than a subject—it is a promise. By blending structured nurturing guidance with highly individualised learning, we transform our school environment into a launchpad. We stand proud of a curriculum that equips our pupils to face the world with confidence, making informed choices, building healthy relationships, and embracing the future with a profound sense of pride and limitless aspiration.
